There is a steady increase in the search for overseas job opportunities by Indians. According to a report, Canada, the United States (USA), the UK and the Middle East are the most preferred countries
Job searches for overseas opportunities by Indians were up by 72% between November 2019 and April 2020. Job search activity decreased sharply after the second wave of Covid-19 hit the world, which led all countries to tighten travel restrictions.
However, after the world recovered from the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, job searches for overseas opportunities increased and remained steady, reported global job site Indeed.
“Indians, even in the middle of the third wave, are ready to work in different parts of the world, especially for tech positions. Indian talent has attracted a lot of attention in the world, and it really speaks to the recognition of our talent in global organizations,” Indeed said. India sales chief Sashi Kumar noted.
According to data from Indeed, Indians prefer to work in countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and the Middle-East region.

This report is a compilation of job searches and data analysis on the Indeed platform from Nov 2019 to Oct 2021.
As per statistics, the USA was the most popular destination from 2019 to 2021 to work for Indians. Nearly 40% of Indians looked for employment in the United States.
Canada is the second most preferred destination by Indians to work because of its immigration-friendly policies. About 16% of Indians looked for employment in Canada.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupied the 3rd place with over 14% of job searches with its constant improvement in skilled workforce readiness.
Britain is in 4th place with 14% of job searches, followed by Qatar(3%) and Singapore(3%) competing for 5th place.
Qatar was in 7th place from Nov 2019 to Oct 2020. Interestingly, Qatar Surpassed Singapore and Australia during the period Nov 2020 to Oct 2021 and ranked among the top 5 destinations for Indians looking for job opportunities abroad, per a report.
Australia settled for 6th place for Indians seeking job opportunities abroad.
The report also revealed some popular positions among job seekers who wish to immigrate are technology jobs such as full stack developer, data analyst, software engineer etc. Job seekers also seek opportunities in customer service and light blue-collar skilled jobs, including drives, etc.
He said that most job searches related to high technology, Engineering and IT are mainly focused or done to settle in countries like the USA, North America and UK, and other job searches are focused in the Gulf region.
“India is a unique market, not only in terms of its large pool of young labor but also how it is integrated into the global economy. It is one of the very few countries in the world which has a very high rate of migration across the world,” Kumar added.
“Indians are willing to work in different parts of the world and then return to India as well. This two-way migration connects India with the global workforce in a really interesting way. Also to entire factions of the Indian workforce working in support of other economies, and therefore connected to the global economy,” Kumar added.
